An Ironic Moment

When the former Great Leader
appeared on the Question and Answer show,
I tweeted disingenuously,
‘Why are they all clapping?’

A stranger replied,
‘Have you heard of respect, moron?’

‘Have you heard of sarcasm, idiot?’
I wanted to respond,
but I thought of the possible flame war
and chose restraint.

A few minutes later
a man in the live audience
threw his shoe at the former Great Leader.

30 Poems in 30 Days: 8, an ironic situation or moment

I should probably mention, for  the benefit of the rest of the world, that this does NOT refer to the well-known George W. Bush incident but to a copy-cat event involving Aussie ex-PM John Howard.
