I ... entered the poem of life, whose purpose is ... simply to witness the beauties of the world, to discover the many forms that love can take. (Barabara Blackman in 'Glass After Glass')

The Quality of Your Smile

Someone said  in fact many said
we should be friends, so much
in common. So we met, and became
mildly friendly. It seemed enough.

'Such harmony,' the seer told me.
'This one will be in many ways
your happiest love, even though
more friendship than passion.'

I could believe that last. There was
no spark. But our conversations
were easy and pleasant. It might have
gone on so: delightful yet inconsequential.

Until I noticed your smile, as you spoke
with someone else. I saw your joy,
your unconscious charm. And more.
Startled, I recognised my own smile.

  1. What a great to find the spark... In that smile resembling yours. Maybe we need that to go beyond the casual.

This is beautiful... often when a person smiles we are able to recognize a lot about their persona.. their character.. charm.. and it connects us to them.. how wonderful that you should recognize your own smile in theirs :D

    Lots of love,
    Sanaa

  6. Reflection in a smile--something we all have in common, costs nothing and can last a lifetime

  7. This is put so simply, but carries a deep essence. We shouldn't rush to choose our partner, rather wait for that bedazzling smile. Love as they say just happens, and cannot be forced to happen....Awesome, but so effortlessly put!
