Autumn dusk: haiku, April – May 2015

sleepy afternoon
yellow blooms
trail across concrete

#lune

******

happy couple
in the album at least
my first wedding

22/4/15

non-stop rain
thunderclap too close
April’s end

***

Solo Samhain
cast circle light candle
talk to my dead

1/5/15

early dark
a gate bangs loudly
near my house

16/5/15

Autumn dusk
blue hills darken sharp-edged
against pale sky

***

Evening breeze
narrow leaves flutter
like feathers

22/5/15

cool evening
my cat in the car
miaows once

29/5/15

  1. Mmm. The sharpness of these images is a complete slide show. I often Samhain alone and have felt such silence in the dusk that everything is amplified. I worry about the cat in the car.

    1. He was all right. :) He just doesn't like going to the vet for his monthly arthritis injection, and voiced a small protest when we got close and he realised where we were headed.

    1. Thank you! I find it a deceptively easy and in fact difficult form — I think the secret is in trying to capture the moment.

  4. You have some good ones here, Rosemary. I sense there is a story behind the 'happy couple' haiku. You have characterized April well with your 'non-stop rain' poem. I wonder if your cat is meowing out of contentment in the car - I would guess so!

    1. Thank you, Mary.

Yes, quite a story - a disastrous and very brief marriage, as it turned out!

And I'm afraid my poor cat was protesting because he knew I was taking him to the vet, which he hates.

  5. Love love love them. Especially casting the circle and talking to your dead, and happy couple in the album, "my first wedding". Great haiku, Rosemary.

  8. Every haiku seems domestic-related. And it wasn't that perfect scenario - some undertones of maybe marital problems? I could be wrong though.

Despite of the sensitive subject, each one is written with eloquence, Rosemary

  10. Great haiku set and lune! When contending episodes are deflected from us one can see how life had been most forgiving. Things might turn out to be a lot worst! Nice lines Rosemary!

  11. This is like a year passing in a day...all the shades and thoughts swirled up and refined so crisply - for some reason the line that jumped out was your cat was in the car..i see the explanation above! But even without knowing it was like he was an alarm clock ringing you out of your thoughts and back into the here and now..
