I ... entered the poem of life, whose purpose is ... simply to witness the beauties of the world, to discover the many forms that love can take. (Barabara Blackman in 'Glass After Glass')

What Would the Moon Want with Me?

It wants to make a poet, that's all,
and a dreamer who likes to be
near trees and water, somewhere
the stars too are visible at night

away from the glare of the city,
away from the ceaseless noise
and the difficulty of breathing. That's why
the moon always gazes so long in your window.

... And it all came to pass as foretold.
Thereby I know the moon loves me.

  1. This is sooooooo lovely. I once woke in the night to see the moon right up close, peering in the window at me. And of course I wrote a poem.

  3. There is something so true to this....on some perfect nights, it really can feel like the moon is gazing down at us, just us, hoping to make poets out of us.

    1. Sorry about that. It doesn't look small to my view, but someone else also remarked on it recently. I have the same problem with some other blogs, but can go to View in my main toolbar and magnify them. However, will start using a larger font, and perhjaps go back and enlarge old posts too. Thanks for the heads-up.

  14. Rosemary, this is a sweet poem. I wouldn't have thought that a 'moon poem' could be written like this, as personable as 'puppy dog' poem.
