Because the roses were red, my dear,
deep red, hinting at black, and you
thrust them at me, schoolboy awkward
despite your white hair, but your blue eyes
shone – I, pink with delight, said yes.
shone – I, pink with delight, said yes.
Written for Day 4 of April Poetry Month (aka NaPoWriMo) at 'imaginary garden with real toads': Tuesday Platform – 'The ink is black, the paper’s white… Write a 5-line poem containing three colors.' (Mine includes black and white as non-colours.)
deep red, hinting at black.. What a beautiful colour.

ReplyDeleteThis is yummy.
ReplyDeleteLove this! "Schoolboy awkward" and "..I, pink with delight, said yes". Great lines. I can see this one and it's a great image.
ReplyDeleteSooo romantic!!❤️ I especially adore "deep red, hinting at black, and you
ReplyDeletethrust them at me, schoolboy awkward" sigh.. beautifully expressed❤️
Sigh....how romantic, Rosemary. First dates are like landmines, regardless, how young, you are.
ReplyDeleteOf course you did...how could you not?
ReplyDeleteOh I see the immortal picture. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteAh lovely. Thanks. k.
ReplyDeleteA rainbow of emotion!!!
ReplyDeletewonderful ~
ReplyDeleteYou did the prompt really fitting, Rosemary. It didn't seem to go to awkward moments to fit the colors, they appeared just right in a short tale here. Thank you.\BTW, since our visit I have posted a picture of KP wearing her purple jacket. I took some pictures of her this evening by the pool, she was wearing a pretty purple bottomed dress. But my Picasa failed me. I hope it is okay, I use it a lot. But Google has stopped supporting it.
ReplyDelete..
Glad you said Yes - and your words are delightful.
ReplyDeleteKind regards
