I ... entered the poem of life, whose purpose is ... simply to witness the beauties of the world, to discover the many forms that love can take. (Barabara Blackman in 'Glass After Glass')

Crowded House Live on the Opera House Steps

In my living room
I who think I have no beat
tap my feet, my hands drum.
I who think I am tuneless hum along.

I who think I have no beat
sway in time, nod my head, see on TV
the live audience nodding in unison.

Tap my feet, my hands drum,
I'm right out of body-consciousness now,
I'm more in my body than I've ever been.

I who think I am tuneless hum along.
Lights throb, smoke billows, Nick dances.
On stage and off, the melodies rise and fall.

    1. Not so long in this case, Therisa – it was a 20-years-later encore concert, which happened on the date I wrote this poem, last November. (I have now belatedly posted a YouTube video.)

    1. Ha ha, yes the Bird thing was ... memorable!

So many songs from this concert I could have posted, all wonderful, but this seemed to best illustrate the things I said in the poem. I didn't originally include it, as the YouTube excerpts only became available some time after the event

  8. I am assuming this a self description. I only tap and sway when I'm out in an audience. I see others driving I their cars 'jiving' to the radio music, or singing along. Not me.

    2. I was watching it on TV, so in that sense I was in the audience – while also watching the live audience. Yes, I was moving too, as I watched and listened. (I don't play music in my car, too distracting.)
