I ... entered the poem of life, whose purpose is ... simply to witness the beauties of the world, to discover the many forms that love can take. (Barabara Blackman in 'Glass After Glass')

Valentine to My Levi

My gorgeous lad, my best bloke,
your eyes are bright, your hair is dark.
You are the one I love to cuddle;
come over here, let's have a snuggle.
Your body hair is thick and furry,
your loving voice is low and purry.
You are mine and I am yours;
I'm wrapped around your flexing paws.
They say you're a killer; I'll ignore that.
You are my darling, the cat of my heart.

At dVerse, the prompt is to wind down from Valentine's Day by writing a short love poem to something other than a person, almost but not quite in gooey, greeting-card language. (Oh, I think I misunderstood and we were supposed to get away from that kind of language. Instead, I've attempted to turn it humorous.)

  2. I enjoyed the tone of your poem and could feel both the love for your cat and the humorous way you look at this love. Well-done!

  3. How cute.. of course, all moving thing's are killers.. so why should we always put the label on the cat who is totally honest about it.? And the cat is just gorgeous...

  5. Nothing like the loyalty and love of a pet! Doesn't look like a 'killer' to me. Smiles.

    1. No, he doesn't, does he? I try to stop him and Freya, his sister, from hunting, but I'm not always successful.

  9. I have two cats, both take turns vying for my attention. And yes, they both have me "wrapped around their paws!" Very cute little poem!

    1. Thank you. I actually have two as well, but chose this one as I wanted the poem to read, at first, as though it could have been a man I was addressing. (My other cat is his sister.)

  10. This is the first black cat I've ever had, though I always wanted one. Most of the others have been tabbies. But of course, all cats are lovely. :)
