I ... entered the poem of life, whose purpose is ... simply to witness the beauties of the world, to discover the many forms that love can take. (Barabara Blackman in 'Glass After Glass')

Recurring Dream

In this dream
you are here again.
We’re talking.

Just that.
No special revelations.
Just you and me.

Just talking.
Friendly. Ordinary.
About nothing much.

The small
deeply important
matters of day-to-day.

It isn't the words.
It’s your head close to mine
on the other pillow.

It’s the warmth between us
unremarked,
not needing remark.

When I wake
and know,
it’s not so bad any more.

There are always tears
of course
but also gladness.

I understand it’s a dream
of wish-fulfilment. And
I know the dream is true.

  1. Sigh. How lovely to have dream visitations. I know they're true, too.

  2. You've crafted such beauty and hope with your last stanza. Every person who dreams with her heart knows that the dream is true. It's what keeps us going, and smiling.

  3. Oh my gosh, Rosemary this poem is so pure and so very transcendental.. such a lot of serene tranquility and hope in these images "I understand it’s a dream of wish-fulfilment. And I know the dream is true." Beautifully penned. Thank you so much for participating at Prompt Nights and for your constant love and support.

    Lots of love,
    Sanaa

  5. This is so beautiful Rosemary. Love last so long and stays with you and such feelings you describe make everything seem OK again showing that it is never over.
