I ... entered the poem of life, whose purpose is ... simply to witness the beauties of the world, to discover the many forms that love can take. (Barabara Blackman in 'Glass After Glass')

What Do Women Want?

Poor Sigmund!
Has no-one told you yet
what women want?
Perhaps it's because
there are so many answers
to that question; perhaps
if you had a week or two ...

But here's an answer
I think true — we want
to be beautiful, seen
to be beautiful, admired
for our beauty. And
we want to be loved
for other qualities.

  1. I hate to admit that this is completely true. I'd like to think the outer form carried less significance; but vanity and value place on appearance seem ingrained.

  2. Yes!
And yet, like Kim Nelson, I want none of beauty's traps, because to be beautiful also means to be an object for someone's pleasure.
    Ahhhh; we're so complicated.

I'm all for that, Rosemary! A pretty lady is a joy to be seen with and to love. No two ways about it! Nicely!

  4. yes tricky indeed - tell them they are beautiful but without implying you are only with them for that reason - and make it seem sincere or as if you do not just want something - hmmm i am sure I am missing something can I make it up to your later??

  5. You guys have confirmed my impression of the male point of view, lol. Ladies, I was trying to say that although we are conditioned to want to be seen as beautiful, we are smart enough to want to be loved for deeper, more lasting qualities.
