I ... entered the poem of life, whose purpose is ... simply to witness the beauties of the world, to discover the many forms that love can take. (Barabara Blackman in 'Glass After Glass')

Small treats: June haiku 2011

mild evening
streaks of pink cloud
lengthening

bright evening
inky mountains
under light sky

clear evening
crickets chirping
on the way home

evening darkens
black bats set out
just visible

4/6/11

smell coconut oil —
instantly
seventies Bali

******

the smell of mown grass
after rain —
childhood afternoon

all of us huddled
behind glass
cosy from the cold

10/6/11

autumn sunlight
the mountains clear-edged
and I’m sneezing

17/6/11

small treats
fresh fish instead of tinned
the money goes

frugality
rebelled against, becomes
essential
