I ... entered the poem of life, whose purpose is ... simply to witness the beauties of the world, to discover the many forms that love can take. (Barabara Blackman in 'Glass After Glass')

Because He Is

Because he is fat
and lonely
because he is clever
and isolated
because he is arrogant
and insecure
because he is loveless
and visionary
because he is genius
and pioneer
because he is short-shrift
and knowing
because he is travelled
and experienced
because he is talented
and skilled
because he is sneering
and crying
because he is lost
and longing
because he is my son
and I am his mother
I am caught in
his lies forever.
Cancel that!
Change the future.
Because he is dream
and a soft heart …

  1. I really like this. I don't normally comment on poetry (perhaps you've noticed!) because I never know what to say but I had to make an exception because I love the feel and honesty of this poem.

It's a good idea to start a separate poetry blog. I've been pretty crap with mine recently but that's because I've been so busy with other projects - normally I find there's a good incentive to work on poetry when it has a specific home to go to!

  2. Thanks, Jenny, it's very kind of you. And of course I'm extra thrilled because it's my latest and I'm glad it works for you.

I do comment on other people's poetry when I like it (perhaps you've noticed, lol!). But I never know quite what to say either, and usually end up with such erudite remarks as 'Wow!' or 'Beautiful!' - hardly the heights of literary criticism. Oh well...

It's SO nice to get a comment here so soon!

I have been busy with other things too, but am getting a yen for more poetry now. Otherwise I'm liable to go a bit cranky - you know?
