I ... entered the poem of life, whose purpose is ... simply to witness the beauties of the world,
to discover the many forms that love can take. (Barabara Blackman in 'Glass After Glass')

Warm evening: (other)* February haiku 2011

Cool day.
I take my walk early
before the rain.

7/2/11

autumn afternoon
tasting honey —
delicious!

warm evening
watering the garden
through a rainbow

**************

late tomatoes
plumper and redder
sampled by birds

the electric fan
blows hard
last night of summer

NaHaiWriMo #28

summer ends
friends argue and blame
I lose heart

under the carport
wide-eyed owl immobilised
by the sensor light

NaHaiWriMo #27

from my bed
through the new curtain
soft new light

my cat
knows his place
on the bed

The Visitor

Dark figure, peripheral,
just by my shoulder.
For me? Is it time
to set my affairs in order?

Yet I am surprised
by my own calm.
Eventually I even forget him
and fall asleep.

In the morning, my Beloved
waking beside me, says:
‘What a terrible night!
I thought I was dying.’

Realities

I am a blonde
in a little black dress,
a floaty and flirty little black dress.

I am driving a bright red car.
On the passenger seat beside me
a small puma sits.

I don’t mention
that the car and I
are both aged, and looking it.

Nor that the grey-and-tawny cat
is actually a domestic
travelling in her carry-case to the vet.

We are remembering Peru
long, long ago. They bowed to us:
warrior princess and her fierce pet.

My old black cat
runs like a kitten,
hurts his leg again.

NaHaiWriMo #9

A day off.
He finds me
extra chores.

NaHaiWriMo #8

deep darkness
even the geckoes
are silent

Car starts, revs.
Running footsteps, voices.
Sunday morning street.

5 February 2011

NaHaiWriMo #5

Expectant morning.
Trees, earth, air bright
promising sultry.

NaHaiWriMo #4

‘Not a single leaf
left on a single tree.’
Cyclone Yasi.

(Almost a found haiku, quoting Queensland Premier Anna Bligh.)

February has been declared National Haiku Writing Month, and I signed on to do one a day.

Here is the first:

warm wet morning
brown moth dives suddenly
across my face
